Issuing tickets (or challan, as known in India) is a remedy for increased vehicular traffic rules violation worldwide. The violators have the choice of either compound their tickets/challans by paying the prescribed fine on the spot or go to the court at the prescribed date and time.
The traffic police is given handheld terminals working on GSM / GPRS /CDMA technologies. The device retrieve data relating to previous offences committed by the driver or the vehicle from its database on the basis of vehicle number, name of the driver, parentage and driver's license details. The terminal is able to print challans on the spot and also forward it to courts.
The challan information picked up by the terminal updates the traffic violators' records on the central server.
The VISIONTEK approach also brought in more transparency to the entire fine collection system thus significantly increasing their revenues.
